Reporting Concerns

Reporting Animal Welfare Concerns
Safeguarding animal welfare is the responsibility of every individual at USC

The Institutional Animal Care and Use Committee (IACUC) reviews and, if warranted, investigates all concerns of mistreatment, misuse, or noncompliance involving the care and use of research animals. The IACUC encourages prompt reporting of concerns related to animal welfare. There are multiple methods of reporting available below.

If you observe misuse or mistreatment of animals, or if you see procedures that you do not think comply with federal regulations or institutional guidelines, report the incident immediately to the IACUC office (iacuc@usc.edu).  All reports should be as specific and detailed as possible and any supporting documentation should be included. Include date, time, incident, location, species, protocol number, and whether you wish to be contacted about clarifications or resolution.

Anonymous Reporting and Non-Retaliation: The identity of all persons submitting a report will be kept strictly confidential and USC strictly prohibits any retaliatory action against any individual who reports any incident to the IACUC. If you have a question, rather than a report, regarding laboratory animal care and use at USC, you can contact the Department of Animal Resources (DAR) office (323)442-1689 or daradm@med.usc.edu, otherwise all reports will be routed to the IACUC (iacuc@usc.edu).
